Happy New Year from Castle Rock Pottery, Castle Rock, Colorado
Our New BLOG is Up!!
To Our Pottery Family and Friends,
THANK YOU for visiting our Castle Rock Pottery website. Our home-based business is located in the Town of Castle Rock which is south of Denver and north of Colorado Springs. In the picture above, you'll see the Castle Rock leaning mesa (right side) which is adorned with a lit star throughout the Holiday Season. About 100 years ago, the Castle Rock Star was used to guide travelers from across the state, and served as a guidepost that they were nearing Denver. Luckily for us, this lighting tradition has endured! From Castle Rock, you can see the gorgeous vistas of Pikes Peak, the front range, foothills and majestic mountains -- inspiration all around us.
Our website highlights local artists here in Colorado! Please bookmark us for news and info about new products from our featured artists. Here at Castle Rock Pottery, Jerry and I have met some wonderful Colorado artists in the community, and as a result, you can see products made/designed by Loren Jones of Fort Collins, Mike Cowles of Colorado Springs, and two designs created by Fred Wills from Colorado Springs, as well as our products. As for us, we delegate work: Joyce and Jerry make pots, finish and glaze.
"What makes us unique?" you may ask. Well, we make our own CUSTOM-MADE designs -- NOT mass produced designs. So you may notice we have some unusual, edgy designs, plus traditional items in our line of products, reflecting the character of each individual artist. We also have a range of different glaze types so we're hoping we are offering items that you love and enjoy, while promoting our local artists here in Colorado.
We hope you will view our MEET THE ARTISTS link to find out more about us! :-)
Also, please keep checking back to see what's new and send Any and All suggestions to us at: feedback@castlerockpottery.com
One special piece is Magma Puppy, our "signature" dachshund, hand-crafted sculpture made by by Castle Rock Pottery. It has art deco / cubist styling, and you won't find it anywhere else. We've noticed that Magma Puppy is well loved by doxie owners! Special orders and colors are welcome.
We list on ebay from time-to-time, with hopes that shoppers will also visit our website. We are committed to produce high-quality items, and provide examplary customer service for each and every pottery lover who orders from us (we have over 360 ebay feedbacks, 100% POSITIVE!!). We guarantee it. If you're unsatisfied please let us know what we can correct.
We'd love to hear from you ... Leave Comments, Suggestions, Your Thoughts ... Thanks!! from Joyce and Jerry, Castle Rock Pottery
Happy New Year! Please accept our wishes for happiness, health and prosperity to all (brave souls) who enter here ...

Pictured: "Platte Wheeler Vase" (four pots) a recent addition to our pottery line designed by Fred Wills, Retired Potter. Yes, you may know his "FW" initials from Van Briggle Pottery. Fred was Master Potter at Van Briggle for roundabout 42 years.
There are some amazing things to be said for "Master Potter" and to me this means Hands - Knowledge - Teacher. And so much more. He has offered to make the two designs you see today, and we invite you to view these lovely designs that were created in a two-way partnership. We are very lucky indeed. Fred made the original design ... we made the design into moulds, slipcast them, finish and glaze. 100% MADE IN AMERICA.
The Colors Are:
1: "Green Denim" 2: "Black Raspberry" (I think this is Fred's favorite / a "satin" glaze) 3: Blue and 4: Smoky Firewood
WE GUARANTEE OUR POTS ... They are made with HIGH-QUALITY CLAY BODY and GLAZES. Don't be surprised by that geeky comment (and the capital letters) about "clay body" -- there is a BIG difference between the actual clay body on different brands of pottery. Fred even does tests to check how pots hold water -- the "IS IT WATERTIGHT TEST" -- Good God! ... Gotta love these special people. Who'd a thought? Haha!

FRED IS A COMICAL GUY! One day he was giving me pottery lessons and I showed up late (** you know ... hauling a potter's wheel in your car takes time**). WELL, FRED joked that he'd give me a "bad grade" that day, and laughed about how HE graded the teacher! Ohwell, he does all of this with a lighthearted attitude and since I'm thankful for ALL of Fred's words, I listen and learn. ... That's my job!

Historical Thought For The Day: In January 1908, Keramic Studio Magazine placed a notice "Wishing you a Happy New Year" which included this quote:
Time's wheel runs back or stops ~ Potter and Clay Endure.
Happy New Year ... 2012.
